A former Nigerian footballer, Ifeanyi Joachim Nwafor and his Indian wife have been nabbed for allegedly defrauding several people in the country.

Nwafor reportedly moved to Delhi in 2009 in search of greener pastures.

He got his first opportunity with a reputable bank in Chennai one year later.

After that, he represented three state-level teams – Sky Blue Eda Pearl, Super Studio and Top Most FC before quitting in 2014.

Nwafor and his Indian bride were arrested in possession of huge sum, 12 mobile phones and two laptops.
The Nigerian is alleged to defraud his victims using social media.
“Nwafor is from Nigeria and had come to India on a business visa in 2009,” Delhi Police said on Wednesday.
“In 2012, he came in contact with the co-accused, who is from Asam, through Facebook. They started living together and later got married.

“The man approached people through social media and offered to send them gifts.
“His wife would call the targets and ask them to deposit customs duty and tax. They would withdraw the money within hours.”
