Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a “true patriot” whose life was defined by honesty, discipline and unwavering service to the nation.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram on Sunday, 68-year-old Osinbajo revealed that he and his wife, Dolapo Osinbajo, received the news of Buhari’s death “with profound sadness.”
“In the moments that followed, we spoke with Her Excellency Aisha Buhari and their son Yusuf Buhari to express our heartfelt condolences and to share in the deep grief of their beloved family,” Osinbajo wrote.
He noted that it was an honour to have served the country alongside Buhari for eight memorable years, highlighting the late president’s legacy of devotion to public service.
“Nigeria has lost a true patriot, a man whose life was marked by unyielding devotion to the nation he loved,” he said.
“President Buhari’s legacy will endure as a testament to the nobility of public service, defined by honesty, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.”
Osinbajo concluded his tribute with a prayer for comfort and strength for Buhari’s family and all those mourning his death, adding, “May his memory always be blessed.”
President Muhammadu Buhari died on Sunday in London at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
