The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has secured a permanent headquarters in Abuja 28 years after it was established.

The NFVCB on Wednesday shared pictures on Instagram from a courtesy visit to the minister of art, culture, tourism and the creative economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, with its Director-General Shaibu Husseini and other stakeholders in attendance.

The post was captioned:
“After 28 years, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has finally secured a permanent headquarters – marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s creative sector.

“During a courtesy visit, the Director-General of the NFVCB, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa Esq., for her steadfast support and visionary leadership in bringing this longstanding goal to reality.

“This milestone underscores the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen and empower Nigeria’s cultural and creative industries.”

The new office, allocated to the board by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was part of properties seized in recent years.

The NFVCB was established by Act No. 85 of 1993 to license film and video distributors, classify films and regulate public exhibitions. It operates under the ministry of art, culture, tourism and the creative economy.

Husseini, who was appointed NFVCB boss in September 2023, is a film critic and journalist with decades of experience in the creative sector. He holds a PhD in film studies from the University of Lagos.
