The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has mourned Sarah Chukwueze, the mother of Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze, who died after a brief illness.
Speaking on Thursday, the General Secretary of the NFF, Mohammed Sanusi, stated that the federation was aware of the role Mrs. Chukwueze played in the lives of her children, including the Fulham winger.
Mr Sanusi stated that Chukwueze had often spoken about his mother’s influence on his career and personal development.
He noted that the loss came shortly after the death of the father of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi.
“We are aware that Mrs Sarah Chukwueze was a supportive presence in the lives of her children, including our international player, Samuel Chukwueze. Samuel has always, at every opportunity, acknowledged his mother’s influence on his professional development,” Sanusi said.
He added that the federation shared in the grief of the Chukwueze family and the national team player.
“We are sad at her departure, coming only a few days after we had to mourn the passing of the father of Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi. We pray that God will grant her eternal rest and grant those she has left behind, including Samuel and his siblings, the fortitude to bear the loss,” he said.
The NFF expressed condolences to Chukwueze and his family as the player continues to receive messages of support following the death.
