NCC moves to address poor service quality in Abuja

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the recent drop in service quality in Abuja, saying the situation has affected the experience of many telecommunications users in the city.

In a statement signed by its head of public affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, the commission said it is working with major stakeholders and operators to resolve the problem. The disruption, it explained, stems from diesel supply issues affecting IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider that powers Airtel and MTN base stations in the affected areas.

According to the NCC, the situation was triggered by activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association, which disrupted diesel deliveries to multiple sites and led to service outages.

The commission said it is engaging the relevant parties to remove the bottlenecks and restore normal services as quickly as possible. It urged all sides to cooperate in resolving the diesel supply challenges affecting critical telecommunications infrastructure.

The NCC also stated that it is taking steps to support dialogue between operators and other stakeholders as part of efforts to stabilise service quality. It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a reliable environment for the growth of telecommunications services nationwide.

The regulator assured subscribers that it is managing the situation and will continue to provide updates on progress made towards restoring full service in Abuja. It thanked users for their patience during the period of disruption.
