Nathaniel Bassey becomes first Nigerian gospel artiste to surpass 400 million Spotify streams

Gospel singer and trumpeter Nathaniel Bassey has made history as the first Nigerian gospel artiste to surpass 400 million streams on Spotify.

According to music data platform The Debut Hub, Nathaniel Bassey has now joined the list of 43 Nigerian artistes who have reached the milestone across all credits on the platform.

The 43-year-old singer has become one of the most-streamed gospel artistes in Africa, with hit songs such as ‘Imela,’ ‘Onise Iyanu’, ‘Adonai’ and ‘Olorun Agbaye (You Are Mighty)’ contributing to his global reach.

Born on August 27, 1981, in Lagos, the Akwa Ibom native began his music career as a jazz trumpeter before turning to gospel music. He gained nationwide recognition for his trumpet-led worship style and online worship event, Hallelujah Challenge, which attracts thousands of worshippers from around the world.

Nathaniel Bassey is also a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God and leads The Oasis, a youth expression of RCCG King’s Court in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Nathaniel joins fellow Nigerian artistes such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido on the growing list of musicians with over 400 million Spotify streams, marking another global recognition for Nigerian music.
