Naija Times marks 5th anniversary, launches journalism foundation

Ehi Braimah

Naija Times has marked its fifth anniversary with the launch of its nonprofit arm, Naija Times Journalism Foundation, aimed at promoting quality journalism and social impact.

The online newspaper was founded on September 15, 2020, by publisher and editor-in-chief Ehi Braimah, with Akpandem James and Jahman Anikulapo as co-founding partners.

As part of the anniversary, the organisation unveiled a new website, www.ntm.ng, designed to make it easier for readers to navigate and access content across politics, business, health, education, culture and sports.

Two years ago, during its third anniversary, Naija Times launched a book titled For a Better Society, a compilation of its editorials published between September 2020 and July 2023.

The newly launched Naija Times Journalism Foundation, accessible at www.ntjfoundation.org, will support investigative journalism on social issues, promote media literacy and empower community development through initiatives that foster cohesion and economic growth.

Mr Braimah said, “Five years ago, we launched Naija Times with the following goals in mind: build strong institutions, promote transparency and accountability in public spending, uphold the rule of law, and defend the public interest.

Together with my colleagues, we remain committed to building an egalitarian society that is founded on equity, justice and respect for fundamental human rights. The launch of Naija Times Journalism Foundation represents a bold step forward in our mission to drive social impact and elevate journalism practice in Nigeria.”

The foundation’s programmes officer is Hart Onoboh, who previously worked as a fact-checker and visual communications officer at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD-West Africa).

He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in information management at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
