Afrobeats singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake or Mr. Money, paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Osun State on Monday.

The visit came shortly after Asake arrived at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, where he landed in a helicopter alongside his mother, socialite Yhemolee and actor Lala.

The Ooni’s palace is located a few minutes from the university.

Following the visit, the monarch shared a post on his Instagram page on Tuesday, expressing his joy at receiving the singer, whom he described as his son.

He noted that Asake spent many of his formative years in Ile Ife and described the visit as a return home.

“Today fills my heart with deep joy as I welcome my son, Asake, back home to Ile-Ife. This sacred land is where he spent many of his formative years, moulded by hard work, discipline, and quiet determination. To return home after such a journey is a blessing, and I receive him with pride and open arms,” the Ooni wrote.

He also praised Asake’s mother for her role in the singer’s journey and welcomed her back to Ife.

“Asake’s mother has been his steadfast pillar, and I am equally delighted to welcome her back home while extending my heartfelt gratitude to her for nurturing him with love, resilience, and strength to reach this remarkable stage of life,” he said.

The monarch further acknowledged those who have supported the singer over the years, including actor Lala and members of his team, as well as Obafemi Awolowo University.

“Significantly, I pay special tribute to Lala and the entire crew who stood faithfully by my son, your dedication reflects the true spirit of Omoluabi. I also express my sincere appreciation to Professor Toyin Ogundeji and Obafemi Awolowo University for nurturing one of the greatest musical icons of our time a cultural ambassador who has carried Yoruba heritage onto the global stage,” he added.

“Today, my son has returned home. A global star has come back to his roots. Ile-Ife receives you with pride.”

Asake, who studied Theatre Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, rose to mainstream attention in 2022 after signing with YBNL Nation, the record label founded by rapper Olamide.

He gained widespread recognition with hit songs such as ‘Sungba’, ‘Joha’ and ‘Terminator’, before releasing his debut album ‘Mr. Money With The Vibe’, which topped charts in Nigeria and earned international acclaim.

He has since released multiple projects and performed on major global stages, including sold out concerts and international music festivals.

Known for blending Afrobeats with Fuji and Yoruba influences, Asake has become one of Nigeria’s most prominent music exports in recent years.
