Actress Ireti Doyle has shared how her children now call her “Inspector Babalola”, the character she played in To Kill a Monkey, a newly released crime series directed by Kemi Adetiba.
The 58-year-old made the revelation in an Instagram post on Tuesday where she shared a photo of herself in character.
“You know you have a hit show when even your kids (wey normally no too send like dat) begin to call you by your character name. Called my daughter the other day, and the first thing she said was ‘Innnnspector Babalola’ (in that way, Nigerians do when they’re hailing you),” she wrote.
The actress also gave a shout-out to the show’s creator, saying, “@kemiadetiba …take your flowers Mama…take them all!!🙌🏽♥️.”
She ended the post with a call to action, “Ps: Have you watched it yet? Be sure to tell a friend to tell a friend!😉”
To Kill a Monkey, which premiered on Netflix on July 18, is a crime thriller that tells the story of Efemini (played by William Benson), a man who finds himself trapped in the world of cybercrime after reconnecting with an old friend, played by Bucci Franklin.
The series also stars Stella Damasus, Bimbo Akintola, Lilian Afegbai, Chidi Mokeme and Sunshine Rosman.
Written, produced and directed by Kemi Adetiba, To Kill a Monkey marks her return to directing since her hit King of Boys franchise. The show has received widespread praise for its gripping storyline, standout performances and commentary on friendship, temptation and survival in modern-day Nigeria.
Ireti Doyle plays Inspector Babalola, a law enforcement officer investigating the crimes central to the show’s plot.
The series consists of eight episodes and is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
