Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has said her father will vote for her if she contests the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
She spoke on Friday during an interview on The Morning Brief on Channels Television.
Obasanjo said both her father and mother would support her at the polls.
“I am almost 60; I consider myself lucky to have both my mother and father alive. I don’t think at this age I should be consulting them for everything in my career move,” she said.
“What I have said is that my father, I know, and my mother will vote for me; that’s all I can ask of them. Even if I don’t ask, they will vote for me.”
The former senator also spoke about her move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She said the decision was personal.
“I feel I am a formidable person to beat because of my track record, and so I am going to go for it,” she said.
“I have the same buy-in from the system that all the men have, but I just think that I am a better candidate than they are, and I am going to win.”
Iyabo Obasanjo represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011. She also served as commissioner for health in Ogun State.
She said she has joined the APC and is seeking the party’s nomination for the Ogun governorship election.
She added that the party has allowed aspirants to campaign before the primary election.
“To say that somehow I have been guaranteed the ticket? No. I don’t think anybody in the state has guaranteed anybody else the ticket and has not guaranteed me the ticket,” she said.
