Lagos State Government has announced a partnership with MTN Nigeria to redevelop the Obalende under-bridge into a transport hub to be known as the Y’ELLO Bus Park.
The commissioner for the environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Tuesday.
According to Mr Wahab, the project is aimed at converting the under-bridge area into a transport facility that will serve commuters and residents in the Obalende axis.
He said the bus park will include a regulated transport terminal, a recycling drop-off station, a road camp for officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority and security agencies, more than 60 public toilet facilities, kiosks and other amenities.
Wahab stated that solar-powered lighting will be installed to improve visibility at night, support CCTV surveillance and address security concerns in the area.
He added that a biodigester system will be used to manage wastewater generated within the park, while a recycling station will be provided to discourage illegal waste disposal.
According to the commissioner, the project aligns with the state’s climate agenda, with plans to install solar panels to support energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
He also said tree planting is part of the redevelopment plan to improve air quality.
“This project reflects our resolve to reclaim public spaces, make them functional, sustainable, and safe, and ensure they serve the needs of Lagosians in a modern, responsible way,” Wahab said.
The redevelopment follows recent enforcement actions by the state government, during which squatters were evicted and illegal structures removed from under the Obalende bridge.
The Y’ELLO Bus Park project forms part of Lagos State’s efforts to improve transport infrastructure and public space management across the state.
