Karl Toriola, chief executive officer of MTN Nigeria, has been appointed vice president for Francophone Africa by MTN Group. His new role takes effect from November 1, 2025.
The company said in a statement sent to QEDNG on Monday that the appointment is part of a wider restructuring of MTN Group’s executive leadership. It added that the changes are designed to strengthen the execution of its Ambition 2025 strategy and prepare for long-term growth across key markets.
Mr Toriola will continue to lead MTN Nigeria while also overseeing operations in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Congo Brazzaville. He previously served as vice president for West and Central Africa between 2015 and 2021.
MTN Group president and CEO, Ralph Mupita, said the leadership changes reflect the depth of talent within the organisation. “The changes will support the accelerated execution of our strategy beyond 2025 as well as greater value creation for stakeholders over the medium term,” he said.
MTN said it is focusing on three main growth areas – connectivity, financial technology and digital infrastructure. The company plans to expand broadband services, grow its digital financial platforms, and invest more in fibre networks, data centres and AI-driven systems.
Founded in South Africa, MTN now operates in 19 countries across Africa and the Middle East.
