Arise News anchor Ojy Okpe has shared her first public message following the death of her father, Matthew Egwuenu, a retired Commissioner of Police.
News of Egwuenu’s death began trending about a week ago. He died on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the age of 80.
In a post shared on her social media pages on Friday, Okpe released a video compilation showing moments she shared with her father and reflected on the loss, which comes three years after the death of her mother.
She wrote, “One week ago, God called my Father home, just three years after taking my Mother. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away.
“My heart is broken, but I thank God for the incredible gift of my Father and My Mother. This is the most difficult time of my life, though I find peace knowing my parents are together again in God’s eternal presence.
“Your love will forever live in my heart Daddy, I love you ❤️ Rest in perfect peace, until we meet again.🕊️ Akatapo 1!!! Of Ukwuani Kingdom 👑”
The post marks the first time the broadcaster has spoken publicly since her father’s death.
Family members described Egwuenu as a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by one son, five daughters including Okpe, grandchildren and an extended family.
Okpe is known for her work on Arise News, where she hosts and co-anchors programmes focused on current affairs and social issues. She has worked in broadcast journalism for several years and is widely recognised for her role on the station’s morning shows.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family at a later date.
