Former managing director of TVC Entertainment (TVCe) and host of Your View Morayo Afolabi-Brown has commiserated with the family of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery incident in Abuja on Monday.
In a post on Instagram, Mrs Afolabi-Brown wrote, “I extend my deepest condolences to Somtochukwu’s family and her colleagues at Arise News. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. Amen.”
Maduagwu, also known as Sommie, was a news anchor, reporter and producer with Arise News.
She died in the early hours of Monday at the age of 29 after the robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
Arise News confirmed her death in a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of the management, describing her as a valued colleague.
The statement read, “We extend our deepest condolences to Sommie’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time. Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of the culprits.”
Maduagwu was also a lawyer in addition to her role as a broadcaster.
The Nigeria Police have commenced investigation into the incident.
