Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris has said the media will play a role in communicating the programmes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Minister Idris spoke on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee of the 2026 APC National Convention at Radio House.

The minister, who serves as co-chairman of the subcommittee, said the convention would provide an opportunity for the party to strengthen its internal processes.

“As you are all aware, this convention represents a milestone in the life of our party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a united Nigeria,” he said.

Idris said the administration of President Tinubu is implementing reforms and that the party remains committed to the Renewed Hope agenda.

He added that the convention would also serve as a platform for the party to present its activities and programmes.

According to him, communication plays a role in the success of political events and the committee has the responsibility to ensure that information about the convention is communicated to the public.

“The responsibility entrusted to this committee is both strategic and critical. The success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said.

Idris said the committee would work on information dissemination, coordination with the media and communication of the convention’s processes and outcomes.

He listed the responsibilities of the subcommittee to include content development, media relations, media planning, liaison with other subcommittees on media matters, report writing and documentation, as well as media monitoring and reporting across print and broadcast platforms.

He added that the committee would coordinate media activities linked to the convention.

The minister urged members of the subcommittee to carry out their assignment with professionalism and responsibility.

“I therefore encourage members to approach this assignment with professionalism, creativity and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms to amplify our reach, we must ensure that the convention receives wide coverage while upholding standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.

He congratulated members of the committee on their appointment and expressed confidence in their ability to carry out their duties.

Mohammed Idris later declared the Media and Publicity Subcommittee of the 2026 APC National Convention inaugurated.
