Former Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina has penned a message of encouragement to her successor Onyinyechi Basil following the latter’s participation in the Miss Universe 2025 pageant held in Thailand.
Adetshina took to her Instagram Story on Friday to share a photo of Basil with the caption:
“@yech.i
You did amazing 🥺🇳🇬 we are extremely proud of you.”
Basil represented Nigeria at the competition marked by unexpected controversies. Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, was crowned Miss Universe in the early hours of Friday after a chaotic build-up that included public reprimands, judges stepping down and walkouts by some contestants.
Contestants from Ivory Coast, the Philippines, Thailand and Venezuela joined Bosch in the final round selected from more than 120 participants.
Before her eventual win, Bosch had staged a dramatic walkout from a meeting where she was criticised by Thai organiser Nawat Itsaragrisil, a moment that sparked global backlash and intensified scrutiny on the pageant’s handling.
Despite the tense atmosphere surrounding the international event, Basil held her own on the world stage. The beauty queen, who was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria earlier this year, earned praise from fans and colleagues for her poise and representation of the country.
