Actor Mike Ezuruonye has addressed online rumours linking him to occult practices after a viral clip from the Lagos premiere of Toyin Abraham’s film Oversabi Aunty.
The video showed Mike dancing with Abraham and tossing money around her head before handing it to her. Some social media users interpreted the gesture as having spiritual meaning.
Responding, Mike said he spoke up “because of Toyin and her family.” He described his actions as part of the dance and a show of support for a colleague.
“Usually, I wouldn’t do this; everybody knows it is not in my character. I wouldn’t even answer this kind of nonsense. But because of this person involved, because I love this person and the family dearly, I will respond to this nonsense… I was celebrating a sister, dancing with her…and doing the robo robo dance and all of that. Apparently, it has turned to Juju… What is your thought process? I think if you are diabolical, that is when you think like this.”
He urged people to focus on positive things instead of reading spiritual meaning into a celebratory moment. In a caption, he wrote:
“Some people see joy and create useless/baseless stories. Pure Love Rules @toyin_abraham. God with you and your family always. You have my unending support.”
Toyin Abraham also thanked Mike in the comments. The premiere drew several Nollywood stars, including Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Eke, Mercy Aigbe, and Chizzy Alichi.
