Actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has been appointed Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy by the Edo State Government.

Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the appointment in a statement released on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor. The move is part of efforts by the state administration to strengthen communication between government and residents and encourage wider public participation in government policies and programmes.

According to the statement,
“This is to inform the general public that Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.”

The communique describes Mercy as “an accomplished Nigerian actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist” whose film career spans nearly two decades and includes appearances in over 200 films.

“Through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, she has championed causes focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach.”

The statement said she is expected to use her public influence, communication skills and grassroots connections to improve how government policies and programmes are shared with citizens.

Mercy’s husband, Prince Okogie, represents Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Her new role puts her in a position to help bridge the gap between Edo State authorities and the public as the administration seeks deeper engagement on key initiatives.
