A video of actress Mercy Aigbe and her elder sister Patience Aigbekaen at their mother’s funeral has sparked fresh reactions online, with many viewers pointing out tension between the siblings.
In the clip circulating on social media, Mercy is seen attempting to pull Patience closer during a family photo session, but Patience maintains a straight face and appears unresponsive. Observers also noted that the two women barely interacted throughout the ceremony.
The footage immediately triggered conversations about their strained relationship. Some commenters suggested that “the beef still dey,” while others wondered why the sisters had not resolved their differences before their mother’s burial.
Their rift dates back to 2022 when Patience publicly accused Mercy and their mother of witchcraft. In a series of posts, she alleged that they used “satanic” powers to divert her destiny and claimed their mother favoured the actress spiritually and financially. She described their mother as “wickedly deceptive” and criticised Mercy for being driven by “worldly lust.”
The situation escalated later that year when Patience allegedly set their mother’s Lagos home ablaze after a dispute said to involve an N800,000 loan. The mini-duplex was completely destroyed, leaving their mother homeless.
Mercy has never publicly addressed the accusations, and it remains unclear whether the family reconciled after the incident. The funeral video has now revived those questions, with many viewers concluding that the wounds may still be fresh.
