Actress Mercy Aigbe has penned a heartfelt message ahead of the service of songs and funeral for her mother, Grace Owodunni.
On Thursday, the 47-year-old shared throwback photos on Instagram, expressing how difficult the moment has been for her family.
“Today is heavy. Tomorrow will be even heavier as we lay her to rest. But I trust God to give us the strength to walk through this,” she wrote.
“As we hold your service of songs today, Mommy, my heart is full… Full of memories, full of gratitude, full of love. You were a blessing, a quiet light, a gentle guide. Seeing you with your grandchildren reminds me how deeply you loved and how beautifully you lived. Rest well, my angel. We will carry your light forever.”
Mercy announced her mother’s death on September 24, sharing a candle-lit image with the caption, “R.I.P Mum.”
She later thanked fans and colleagues for their support, describing the days after the announcement as “emotionally and mentally draining.”
In early November, Mercy unveiled the funeral arrangements, stating that the burial would take place on November 29 in Lekki, Lagos. She also announced aso-ebi packages, N200,000 for women and N150,000 for men, for those who wished to honour her mother’s memory.
Her husband, Kazim Adeoti, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the family, thanking everyone for their calls, prayers and messages since the loss.
Mercy’s latest tribute comes as she prepares to bid her final farewell to the woman she calls her “gentle guide.”
