The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria Ltd/Gte (MCSN) has opened a new office in Benin City to cater for users of musical works and sound recordings in Edo and Delta States.

The office, located at No. 8 Amede Street, off Giwa Amu Road, GRA, began operations penultimate week after a recruitment exercise.

According to the organisation, the new branch will ease the licensing process for music users such as hotels, lounges, restaurants, supermarkets, cinema halls, banking halls, factories, aircraft, public transport systems, buses, taxis, radio and TV stations and nightclubs in Benin, Asaba and other surrounding areas.

According to a statement on Tuesday, a management team from MCSN’s Lagos headquarters is currently in Benin to train the newly engaged staff in copyright administration. The training is aimed at equipping them with the tools to licence users and enforce compliance with Nigeria’s copyright regime.

MCSN is authorised to manage performing rights, mechanical rights and neighbouring rights in Nigeria. Neighbouring rights, also called related rights, protect performers and producers of sound recordings when their works are performed, broadcast or otherwise used commercially.
