National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, has reclaimed access to the union’s national secretariat in Abuja following a takeover by a rival faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa on Monday.
Mr Baruwa and members of his group had entered the secretariat citing court rulings in their favour.
He said the action was based on judgments from lower and appellate courts and that it was carried out without violence.
He also said the group had notified the police and presented court documents.
The FCT Police Command said Baruwa and six others were arrested during the incident after they were found attempting to enforce a court order without court sheriffs and other officials.
On Tuesday, MC Oluomo visited the secretariat to assess the condition of the premises.
A video circulating online showed security operatives around the building and damage to offices and property.
He later held a meeting with union members from Kaduna State while security personnel remained at the location.
In a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday, MC Oluomo said he was not a party to the court judgment being relied upon by Baruwa’s faction.
He said the judgment had been appealed and a stay of execution had been entered.
He added that the matter is still before the court and that he had not engaged with Baruwa or members of his group.
“The situation is under the control of security agencies,” the statement read.
MC Oluomo said he remains the National President of the union and urged members to remain calm as the dispute continues.
The leadership dispute in the union is ongoing in court.
