The Mandy Helping Hand Foundation on Thursday, December 25, carried out a humanitarian outreach at Ikorodu Roundabout in Lagos, where it distributed food to less privileged and vulnerable members of the community.

During the outreach, the foundation shared cooked rice, providing beneficiaries with a meal on Christmas Day.

Many of those who received the food expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as timely during the Christmas celebration.

Speaking to the media at the venue, founder of the foundation Mandela Kanu said his interest in humanitarian work began in childhood and was driven by compassion rather than abundance. Kanu, a nursing student at the College of Nursing Sciences, Obohia, Abia State, said he gives despite his own challenges.

“For me every life matters. It is still a struggle for me to survive but it is a sacrifice I have vowed to make,” he said.

According to him, “It has always been my desire, my passion, my joy to put smiles on the faces of others, especially the needy.

“It has been a childhood dream. I am not giving out of plenty or abundance but God has been faithful, as I am giving out of my little.

“To the glory of God, I have just a few individuals that are quite supportive and I pray that God will bring more individuals to assist me in this vision.

“Let me also put it on record that I am encouraged in this endeavour by one of my big uncles Dr Anuma Kalu Ulu (Doctor for Free) a geriatrician based in the United States of America (USA).

“He is a man with the heart of gold, his giving spirit is unequalled, unprecedented and massive and he can sacrifice anything within his control to assist others, making them happy.”

The outreach garnered media attention and was well-received by members of the community. Several beneficiaries offered prayers for the foundation and acknowledged its motto, “Every Life Matters.”

Some residents also appealed for continued support for the foundation, noting that sustained funding would enable it to extend its outreach beyond festive periods and meet the community’s ongoing needs.

Kanu said the Mandy Helping Hand Foundation remains committed to supporting vulnerable people and making a positive impact in communities.
