Malami, Kwankwaso condole with El-Rufai over mother’s death

Abubakar Malami

Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso have sent condolences to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai over the death of his mother Umma El-Rufai.

She died on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, after an illness. She was about 100 years old.

In a post on X on Saturday, Mr Malami said the loss of a mother cannot be replaced and prayed for strength for El-Rufai.

“The death of a mother is an irreplaceable loss, and I pray that Almighty Allah grants her Aljannatul Firdaus and gives you the strength to bear this loss,” he wrote.

He also said he stands with El-Rufai in prayers and support at this time.

Mr Kwankwaso, in his message on X, said the loss of a mother is painful and urged the family to find comfort in her life.

“Yet, in this moment of grief, may you find comfort in the legacy she leaves behind,” he wrote, adding that he prayed for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased.

The death was earlier announced by her grandson Bello El-Rufai in a Facebook post.

Following the development, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) granted El-Rufai temporary bail to attend the funeral rites.

His son Bashir El-Rufai confirmed the release in a post on X.

El-Rufai was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Kaduna on March 24 on a 10-count charge of alleged corruption and money laundering.

The case was adjourned to March 31, for hearing of applications, including his bail request.

Other public figures, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Kaduna State governor Uba Sani and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, also sent condolences.

Her death came days after the death of her daughter-in-law Safiya Ali Rufai.
