Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde and his wife, Tamunominini Makinde, were on Friday installed as the Aare Omoluabi and Yeye Aare Omoluabi of Akure Kingdom by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.

The installation ceremony, which took place in the Ondo State capital as part of events marking the monarch’s 10th anniversary on the throne, drew dignitaries from across Nigeria.

Speaking shortly after the conferment, Governor Makinde described the honour as a call to serve and pledged his commitment to the development of the Akure community.

He announced that he would make financial contributions towards the completion of the Akure Town Hall as well as the ongoing modernisation of the Deji’s palace.

“For me and my wife, we are elated for the honour done to us. We can only promise that we will continue to strive and do our best for the progress of Akure Kingdom,” the governor said.

Makinde also used the occasion to appreciate his mother, Victoria Alo, who was in attendance.

“I want to thank my mother, Mrs. Victoria Modupe Alo. She insisted that she must be here,” he said.

He further assured the people of Akure that his support would reflect in visible improvements in the traditional infrastructure.

“There are ongoing projects in the palace and the Town Hall. I will contribute towards completing the Akure Town Hall. I will also contribute towards modernising the palace of Akure,” Makinde added.

The Deji of Akure, who recently clocked 10 years on the throne, lauded Makinde for his leadership and support for traditional institutions.

He said the chieftaincy titles were conferred in recognition of the governor’s reputation for integrity, humility and service.

The event featured cultural displays, tributes to the monarch and goodwill messages from prominent figures including traditional rulers, political leaders and community elders.
