Love turns into power struggle, IK Ogbonna on modern relationships

Actor IK Ogbonna has shared his thoughts on the unspoken challenges that plague many modern marriages.

In a post shared on his Instagram Stories, the 41-year-old spoke about how relationships between successful men and women often begin with admiration but later descend into power struggles due to ego and societal conditioning.

“It doesn’t always start as conflict. In fact, it often begins with admiration. He is drawn to her strength. She is attracted to his confidence,” he wrote.

“But somewhere along the line, ego meets ego, pride meets independence, culture meets ambition. He was raised to lead. She was taught not to rely on a man,” he added.

According to Ogbonna, the silent clash of identities can cause friction in relationships, not because love is absent, but because no one teaches couples how to navigate each other’s strengths without feeling threatened.

“So what starts as love becomes a power struggle. Not because they don’t love each other. But no one taught them to love each other’s strengths without feeling threatened,” he concluded.

Born Ikechukwu Ogbonna, the actor is known for his work in Nollywood as well as modelling and TV presenting. He was previously married to Colombian model Sonia Morales. Their marriage, which produced a son, ended in 2019.
