Movie producer Vincent Okonkwo has paid tribute to late filmmaker Dimeji Ajibola while sharing a behind-the-scenes video from the set of The Covenant.
Vincent posted the clip on Instagram on Tuesday, showing the cast and crew at work as he reflected on Ajibola who died on November 3, 2024, after battling an undisclosed illness.
He wrote, “We faced many challenges while working on this project, but the greatest of all was losing our beloved Director, Dimeji Ajibola. We remain deeply grateful to Dimeji for pouring his heart into The Covenant, and we hope this project becomes a blessing to his memory. Continue to rest in peace, bro.”
Ajibola, known for films and series such as Hoodrush, Shanty Town, Slum King and Ovy’s Voice, was celebrated for his versatility, animation, visual effects, and digital media expertise. His death prompted widespread tributes from Nollywood colleagues, who remembered him as a visionary filmmaker.
He trained at the New York Film Academy and in animation and VFX in the United States and served as CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios.
The Covenant, produced by Okonkwo, has now taken on added emotional weight as a posthumous tribute to Ajibola.
Filming began in early 2024, and the series features stars including Segun Arinze, Zubby Michael, and Sola Sobowale. It is expected to premiere on Netflix.
