Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has congratulated Nigerian content creator Bemi Orojogun, popularly known on TikTok as London Bus Aunty, for winning Video of the Year at the 2025 TikTok UK Awards.
Mayor Khan, in a post on his X page on Sunday, wrote, “Congratulations to London’s very own Bus Aunty for winning Video of the Year at the TikTok Awards.”
Bus Aunty, a Nigerian living in the United Kingdom, has grown from an internet sensation to an influencer who earns through brand collaborations by filming herself posing with moving London buses from roadside pavements.
Her TikTok page features videos of her standing on the streets of London with her phone, capturing passing double-decker buses. She does not speak in the clips, often appearing with a smile while the sound of the buses forms the audio.
This content has helped her attract more than 200,000 followers on TikTok and over 20,000 followers on Instagram.
Bus Aunty was nominated for the TikTok UK award alongside Friends of Elmtree, Sam Morris, Gardiner Brothers, Joseph Machines and Brad Ben.
In his post, the Mayor highlighted her bus-themed content, stating, “Her love of our iconic red buses has captured hearts across the country.”
He also mentioned her interest in the Bakerloop, which he called “London’s newest express bus route.”
BBC News reports that the winning video has been viewed almost 50 million times.
While receiving the award on Friday, Bus Aunty encouraged social media users not to be discouraged by age or criticism. She said: “Don’t allow your age to stop you. Don’t allow your family to say don’t do that, it’s embarrassing. If you love it, do it.”
Bus Aunty first gained attention in 2024 after posting a forced-perspective clip that went viral.
She has since expanded her work on the platform and now collaborates with brands including Burberry, H&M, IKEA, Jacquemus, Maybelline, JBL and MAC Cosmetics.
She has also featured in public campaigns, including one with Khan on London’s 2,000 zero-emission buses project.
Nicknamed “London Bus Aunty” by netizens, her roadside videos continue to draw reactions online.
Some Nigerian users have jokingly urged her to record similar clips in busy locations such as Oshodi or CMS.
