Lisabi, 3 Cold Dishes, Red Circle lead AMAA 2025 nominations

Nigerian films Lisabi: The Uprising, 3 Cold Dishes and Red Circle have emerged among the top contenders for the 2025 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

The nominations were unveiled in an exclusive ceremony attended by members of the press and veterans of the African film industry.

The event, moderated by actor Segun Arinze, spotlighted the continent’s brightest cinematic talents and showcased a rich variety of stories from across Africa and the diaspora.

Burkina Faso’s Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions leads the race with 10 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director and several technical categories. It is followed by Lisabi: The Uprising with seven nominations. 3 Cold Dishes also continues its impressive run after winning Best World Film at the 2025 Harlem International Film Festival.

Nigerian cinema maintains a strong showing in this year’s competition, with a lineup led by Lisabi, 3 Cold Dishes, Red Circle, Freedom Way, Amanyanabo and The Masked King. These titles secured nominations across acting, production and screenplay categories.

Lateef Adedimeji, who starred in Lisabi: The Uprising, earned a Best Actor in a Leading Role nomination alongside Adjetey Anang (Last Stop) and Mahamadi Nana (Katanga).

Shaffy Bello (The Masked King), Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman (The Serpent’s Gift) and Osas Ighodaro, who starred in 3 Cold Dishes with Fat Toure and Maud Guerard, were nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Directors Niyi Akinmolayan (Lisabi), Asurf Oluseyi (3 Cold Dishes) and Sunkanmi Omobolanle (Red Circle) also earned nominations in major categories, underscoring Nollywood’s strong presence this year.

The 2025 AMAA ceremony will hold on November 9 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
