Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant on public communications and social media to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has mocked the man who declared himself the “Obi of Lagos.”
On Thursday, Mr Olayinka shared the picture of the suspect on X with the caption, “OBI of Kirikiri Prison should be okay for him.”
Lagos State Police Command had earlier arrested 65-year-old Chibuike Azubike for allegedly parading himself as the “Obi of Lagos.”
Mr Azubike, from Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, was arrested with three others, Chibuzor Ani, 57, Martins Nwaodika, 65 and Ikechukwu Nnadi, 41.
According to a police statement, the suspects planned to unveil a prototype of a N1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin.
Police sealed off the venue following intelligence reports and deployed conventional officers, the Eko Strike Force and other tactical squads to prevent the event from holding.
The command said the suspects remain in detention while investigation continues and they would be charged to court after the process is completed.
Commissioner of police Olohundare Jimoh advised the public to be cautious of impostors seeking to exploit cultural and traditional institutions.
