Singer Busola Oke has responded to critics of her music style, asking to be left alone amid renewed backlash online.
In a video circulating on social media, the ‘Eleyele’ crooner expressed frustration over constant criticism from listeners who fault both her traditional sound and attempts to adapt.
“I’m at a loss for what people really want from me? There is nothing I do that is good in your eyes,” she said.
Busola added, “How can I possibly meet your expectations? What is the problem? Can’t you just let me be? Leave me alone.”
Her reaction follows comments from critics who described her music as outdated while also rejecting her efforts to embrace newer styles.
The singer’s outburst comes shortly after a period of public sympathy over her personal struggles. She had earlier broken down in tears in a viral video, saying, “I’m not at peace anymore, I need help,” as she spoke about financial hardship and challenges in the music industry.
In previous remarks, she also lamented the state of the industry, stating that “good music doesn’t sell anymore” while describing difficulties sustaining herself financially.
Amid the concerns, Busola received support from well wishers, including the gift of a plot of land and an ambassadorial deal with a property company, offering some relief from her situation.
Busola rose to prominence with songs such as ‘Eleyele’ and is known for her indigenous style, which blends gospel and inspirational themes. Over the years, she has maintained that she prefers to be described as an inspirational singer rather than strictly a gospel artiste.
