Actor Lateef Adedimeji has been named Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 21st Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for his role in Lisabi: The Uprising.

The film also picked up the award for Achievement in Make‑up.

While Lateef celebrated his win, 3 Cold Dishes, co‑produced by Burna Boy and Osas Ighodaro, dominated other major categories. The film won Best Nigerian Film and Achievement in Production Design, while its rising star Ruby Akubueze took home Best Young/Promising Actor.

The ceremony, held on Sunday at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, featured veteran actor Pete Edochie, who opened the night theatrically seated between two angels.

He said, “I created the African continent before the other continent … This is why our men and women run faster than all the other people in the world. I made you people very comfortable.”

Musical performances from Made Kuti and the Godbless & Ebony Band added to the glamour of the evening.

Lisabi: The Uprising, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, tells the story of the legendary Yoruba hero Lisabi. It has received critical acclaim and reportedly topped Netflix Nigeria within days of release.

3 Cold Dishes, directed by Asurf Oluseyi, follows three trafficked women who reunite years later for revenge. Spoken in French, Yoruba, and English, the film has been described as “a female-first revenge spree” with Tarantino-style intertitles.
