Last child of 48th Ooni Rafatu Awofisayo

Princess Rafatu Awofisayo, the last surviving child of the 48th Ooni of Ife Ademiluyi Ajagun, has died at the age of 102.

The Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi confirmed her death in a statement issued on Wednesday through his palace media office in Ile-Ife.

He said her death marked the end of an era and noted that she lived a life dedicated to service, faith and the preservation of Yoruba royal heritage.

Oba Ogunwusi said she maintained the legacy of her father and served as a custodian of culture within Ife and the wider Yoruba community.

He described her role as Iya Adinni of Ifeland and said she contributed to the growth of the Muslim community in Ile-Ife. He added that she supported unity, discipline and cooperation among members of the community.

“Mama was more than a royal figure; she was a spiritual beacon and a bridge between generations, whose life reflected divine grace and purpose,” he said.

He said she played a role in guiding people across generations and maintained respect within religious and cultural groups.

The Ooni urged residents of Ife and others to remember her life and continue to uphold the values of service and unity.

He prayed for her soul and said her life would continue to serve as an example to future generations.
