Lagos loses fifth female LG official Adebimpe Akintola in two months

Lagos State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been thrown into mourning following the death of Adebimpe Akintola, council manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Mrs Akintola, who was also the chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos, died on Monday, after a brief illness.

Her death was announced by the Forum of Council Managers in a statement on Tuesday.

The forum said she would be buried according to Islamic rites on Tuesday, with Janazah prayers at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer, followed by interment at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara.

Council managers are administrative heads of the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs in Lagos, as well as accounting officers of the councils.

Reacting to the death, Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo described it as another sad incident and extended condolences to her family, the people of Coker Aguda LCDA and the state’s local government system.

Akintola’s death marks the fifth among female local government officials in Lagos within two months.

On August 13, Oluwakemi Rufai, councillor for Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government, died less than two weeks after her inauguration.

On August 18, Zainab Shotayo, councillor for Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, passed away.

On September 20, Princess Oluremi Ajose, vice chairman of Badagry West LCDA, also died, while on September 21, Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, councillor for Ward F in Somolu Local Government, died.
