Lagos govt dismisses reports of rift between Sanwo-Olu, Abiodun

Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging a rift between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the special adviser to the Governor on media and publicity, Gboyega Akosile.

According to the statement, the attention of Governor Sanwo-Olu was drawn to reports circulating on social media and online platforms suggesting a strained relationship between the two governors.

“We wish to state clearly that this is not true. In fact, it is the direct opposite of the relationship that exists between the two leaders,” the statement said.

Mr Akosile stated that both governors maintain regular communication and meet frequently on issues relating to the development of their respective states.

“The two governors meet regularly and speak with each other frequently on issues concerning the development of their respective states,” he said.

He added that the relationship is strengthened by the shared boundary between Lagos and Ogun states, as well as socio-cultural and economic ties between the two states.

The Lagos State Government also cautioned individuals and platforms spreading what it described as false information aimed at creating discord between the governors to desist.

“We advise those seeking to plant seeds of discord between the two leaders through fake news to desist forthwith, as both Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Governor Dapo Abiodun share a common vision to improve the welfare and quality of life of their people,” the statement added.
