Comedian Gbenga Adeyinka created a heartwarming moment at the 2025 finale of his long-running comedy franchise Laffmattazz, held on Sunday, November 23, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The show, now in its 18th year, drew celebrities including Sunny Neji, Shade Okoya, Yomi Fash, Haruna Ishola, 9ice, Timi Dakolo and others. Laffmattazz, which has toured several cities across Nigeria and even extended to the United Kingdom this year, returned to Lagos for its closing edition.
One of the most talked-about moments came at the beginning of the show when a woman in the audience called out to the comedian. Pointing at a young man seated in the front row with his fiancée, she said:
“That’s my son, 28 years ago you were the MC to his first birthday.”
A surprised Adeyinka invited the young man to the stage, saying:
“Come on stage. 28 years ago, I was MC at his first birthday at Water Parks.”
He then turned the reunion into a celebratory gesture, showering the young man with gifts.
“Where are those things? Give me one eleganza cooler. Bring it, give it to him. Is that lady your wife or fiancée? Give me four cartons of minimie. Do we have mattress there? That would be very useful. Do we have first bread there? Do we have first water? God bless your marriage, let’s get these things done,” he said, drawing cheers from the audience.
The finale featured comedy, music and other performances, continuing the legacy of a show that has become one of Nigeria’s most travelled and enduring comedy brands.
Adeyinka, who earlier described the finale as a homecoming for a show that began in Lagos nearly two decades ago, thanked the audience for their support as Laffmattazz wrapped its 2025 tour.
