Afrobeats star D’banj has said the entertainment industry will continue to struggle without stronger collaboration among key players.
The 45-year-old shared this on the Day 2 of Entertainment Week Africa (EWA), which runs from November 18 to 23 in Lagos.
D’banj said, “The problem, we are not together. Like no alliance… and that’s a major thing because when we’re all, when we work together, collectively, we get there faster and we’re able to provide better and faster solutions.”
He added, “So that’s what I see here today and that’s why I’m excited to see the industry, at least some of the industry, gather and then speak about the problems when we already have the solution. I love that.”
On the rise of Afrobeats, he said, “Afrobeat is the future. Africa is the future. Afrobeat is for Africa. It’s right now. It’s us. It’s what we’ve been preaching for the past two decades. I’m glad to be alive in our time. We have the richest natural resources when it comes to Africa and that’s what we have with Afrobeat. So watch out.”
Entertainment Week Africa is organised by Livespot360, founded by Deola Art Alade and Darey Art Alade.
The annual event brings together leaders in music, film, tech and fashion to explore growth opportunities in the creative economy.
Day 1 featured a warm moment between Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade, who shared a heartfelt embrace during the “The Price of Being Her” panel session, softening years of rumoured tension between both stars and drawing applause from attendees.
