Actor Kunle Remi has taken a swipe at the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) as he marked Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan’s first Academy Award.

On Monday, Remi shared a video on his Instagram Story showing Jordan watching his Oscar trophy being engraved with his name. The video was captioned: “Michael B. Jordan watches his Oscar get engraved as people congratulate him on his win.”

Sharing the clip, Remi wrote:
“So happy for MBJ ❤️❤️❤️”

He then took aim at the AMVCA process with a comment about how awards are given.

He wrote: “So they engrave your name after you win! Right there. Take it home! If na Amvca, all of you will share one for the night then comeback and collect it at the next award 😂”

Remi’s comments come against the backdrop of his own history with the AMVCA.

In 2023, he was notably left out of the nomination list for the 9th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards despite starring in the epic film Anikulapo, which received 16 nominations.

Remi responded to that snub at the time. On Instagram, he thanked fans for their support and congratulated colleagues who were nominated. He wrote:
“I have been seeing all the tags after the AMVCA nomination announcement. It would be nonchalant not to appreciate the love, calls and messages. Thank you, kindred… First of, congratulations to all my friends/colleagues… God save una, cos if I Dey the categories I for win (Joke) before una say otherwise. Let the best man win.”

Anikulapo went on to win the Best Overall Movie award at the ceremony, even as Remi himself did not receive a nomination.
