Kunle Afolayan unveils 115-seater cinema named after him

Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has unveiled a 115-seater cinema named after himself.

Kunle shared the news in an Instagram post on Saturday, where he posted a video and revealed that it would be called The Kunle Afolayan Cinema.

He also appreciated businessman Seyi Vodi.

In the caption, he wrote: “It shall be called The Kunle Afolayan Cinema for the great works he has done in the movie and entertainment industry. It is a 115-seater cinema. Thank you @seyivodi.”

The post attracted congratulatory messages from colleagues and fans.

Actor Muyiwa Ademola dropped love emojis.

Femi Adebayo commented, “Congratulations omoya.”

Saidi Balogun wrote, “Well done!.”

Uzee Usman added, “Impactful! Congrats sir.”

Kunle Afolayan is regarded as one of the most respected figures in Nollywood.

He is known for his work on critically acclaimed films such as The Figurine, Phone Swap, October 1, Anikulapo and Citation.

On April 12, he officially launched the KAP Film Village and Resort in Igbojaiye, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The facility, which spans over 60 acres, serves as a hub for film production, cultural tourism and training.

The new cinema is believed to be part of his broader efforts to build a fully integrated film ecosystem, from production to exhibition.

In 2023, Kunle was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, organisers of the Oscars. He is also a recipient of the national honour, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The unveiling of The Kunle Afolayan Cinema adds to his growing list of contributions to the Nigerian movie industry.
