Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has celebrated his brother Aremu Afolayan as he marks his birthday.

Kunle took to Instagram on Saturday to post photos of the celebrant and penned a short prayer for him.

He wrote: “Happy birthday to my darling brother Olumide Aremu @aremumimostwantedlikecrudeoil.
May the good Lord continue to guide your path🙏🏾.”

Saturday’s post comes months after the brothers reconciled following a long-standing rift.

Kunle and Aremu had not been on good terms for several years. Their strained relationship became public in 2018 after Aremu claimed in an interview that their father, the late Ade Love, lived in poverty.

Things came to a head again in March 2023 when Aremu made a viral video accusing family members of neglect.

However, the death of their mother in November 2024 created an opportunity for peace.

The brothers reunited at the wake-keep held in Oyo State, where Aremu publicly apologised to Kunle.

“I’m sorry for putting brother Kunle through the Instagram backlash… It’s because I love you,” he said tearfully.

Kunle responded with a hug, saying: “I am not Aremu’s brother, I am his father. I trained him. But love conquers all.”

The moment was captured on video and shared widely on social media, drawing emotional reactions from fans and colleagues.

Since then, the Afolayan brothers have kept their bond strong, with Aremu even hinting in interviews that they may work on a film project together in the future.

Kunle, 50, is known for directing critically acclaimed films like October 1, The Figurine and Aníkúlápó, while Aremu is an actor best known for his roles in Yoruba movies such as Idamu Akoto.

Their father, Adeyemi Afolayan aka Ade Love, was a pioneer of Nigerian cinema.
