Award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has been honoured with the Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year award at the just-concluded International Tourism Investment Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The award was presented during the Governor’s dinner and tourism awards night, the final event of the three-day summit, which ran from July 22 to 24 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
Themed #ITSOyoState2025, the summit brought together key players from the tourism and hospitality industry, including government officials, investors, developers and creatives, to explore ways of boosting Oyo’s tourism potential while preserving its cultural heritage and creating job opportunities.
Kunle, founder of the KAP Film Village & Resort located in Igbojaye, Oyo State, was recognised for building a unique ecosystem that merges storytelling, tourism and African heritage. The resort has become a major attraction for tourists and creatives, blending nature, film, and hospitality in a way that is deeply rooted in African identity.
Reacting to the award, the KAP management said, “We’re truly grateful for this recognition. It’s not just about one man’s dream. It’s about a team that continues to work with passion to build something lasting.”
They expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government service commission Akinwale Akinwole, CEO of the National Theatre Tola Akerele and the ministry of art, culture and the creative economy for their support and encouragement.
“This award is not the end,” the KAP team added.
“It’s fuel to keep going, to keep dreaming, and to keep building something that makes Nigeria proud.”
