Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced the release date for the second season of his epic series Anikulapo.
Afolayan made the announcement in a social media post on Sunday night.
“ANIKULAPO series Season 2 coming on 30 January on @naijaonnetflix.
“Are you ready?” the multiple award winner wrote.
Returning cast members for the new season include Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Oyindamola Sanni, Aisha Lawal, Moji Afolayan, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Taiwo Hassan and Lateef Adedimeji. Kunle Remi, who played the lead role of Saro, is missing.
New additions to the cast include Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as KieKie, Teniola Aladese, Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Saidi Balogun, Adeoluwa Okusaga, also known as Saga and Tayo Faniran.
Principal photography for the new season began on August 1 and ended on September 19, completing a 50-day production schedule. Filming locations expanded from the KAP Film Village and Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, to Cape Coast in Ghana.
The expansion followed a collaboration between KAP Motion Pictures and Ghana’s National Film Authority under the “Shoot in Ghana” initiative, aimed at promoting the country’s film industry.
The first instalment of Anikulapo, a Netflix original feature film, premiered on the platform on September 30, 2022. The first series, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, was released on March 1, 2024.
