Kingsley Okonkwo defends Bible-inspired tattoo, says it is evangelism

Relationship coach and lead pastor of David Christian Centre Kingsley Okonkwo has defended the tattoo on his arm, describing it as a means of evangelism.

The tattoo was revealed in a video posted on his official Instagram page on Saturday.

It bears the scripture John 3:16 written in Roman numerals as “III: XVI.”

The video was shared as part of activities marking his 50th birthday. It opens with a voice-over of the scripture.

Following reactions to the post, Okonkwo addressed the issue in a Facebook post on Sunday.

“My religious brothers and sisters were busy judging over tattoo; they didn’t notice that the gospel (John 3:16) was preached to millions in 24hrs by almost all blogs,” he wrote.

QED.ng had earlier reported that the unveiling of the tattoo drew reactions on social media, with some users questioning whether it aligns with biblical teachings and expectations of a pastor.

Some critics cited Leviticus 19:28, which cautions against marking the skin, while others argued that faith is based on personal belief rather than physical appearance.

In response to the ongoing discussion, Okonkwo advised followers to remain calm.

“Those who want to hear about tattoos, drink water and relax. We will talk on Monday after the parties this weekend,” he wrote.

He continued to share photos from his birthday celebrations, captioning one post, “Still celebrating the big Five 0.”

Kingsley Okonkwo is the founder and lead pastor of David Christian Centre, a Lagos-based church with branches in several locations.

He frequently shares teachings on marriage, relationships and family life on social media and at church events.

The discussion surrounding the tattoo has continued online, with differing views on personal expression, biblical interpretation and pastoral conduct.
