Veteran juju musician King Sunny Ade, popularly known as KSA, made an appearance at the 70th birthday celebration of former secretary to the Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde, held in Akure, Ondo State.
The 78-year-old thrilled guests with a live performance alongside his band. Video clips from the celebration, shared online on Wednesday, captured KSA entertaining the crowd with his signature stage presence.
Notable dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Olayide Adelami; the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III; his wife, Olori Olajumoke Abegunde; and several other political and traditional leaders.
KSA’s appearance comes weeks after false rumours circulated on social media claiming the legendary singer had gone missing. The rumour gained traction after one of his daughters posted concerning messages online, claiming she couldn’t reach him and calling for a missing-person alert.
The music icon later released a short video recorded and shared by his daughter, Bose Olubo-Adegeye, unequivocally debunking the claims. He reassured the public that he was alive and well, saying, “Nobody kidnapped me. I have been doing my shows. I was at a show last Saturday at Lekki, Lagos. I am on my way to have a show.”
He added that the confusion may have stemmed from the fact that some of his children had not seen him recently. His management also confirmed he had performed in Lekki just before the rumours surfaced.
King Sunny Ade, born Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, is one of Nigeria’s most celebrated musicians and a pioneer of juju music. With a career spanning over five decades, he has received international acclaim and remains one of the few living legends still active on stage.
