Kilanko may be kicked out before Ramadan is over, Rotimi Salami laments low cinema sales

Actor Rotimi Salami has expressed concern over the cinema performance of his newly released movie Kilanko after its opening weekend.

In a post shared on Instagram in the early hours of Tuesday, Rotimi said the film recorded low sales in cinemas last weekend.

“I am making this post with a heavy heart.

“KILANKO SALES AT THE CINEMAS LAST WEEKEND WASN’T GOOD. That’s why I couldn’t post throughout yesterday.

“Still I say a very huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out at different times for meet and greet, likewise everyone who came out to watch but the numbers are pretty small.

“If KILANKO doesn’t make the expected figure by this weekend. It might be kicked out of the cinemas even before Ramadan is over. Please we need all the support to get to a retainable figure.

“KILANKO IS SURE A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE THAT EVERYONE MUST SEE.”

Kilanko was directed by the late actress and filmmaker Allwell Ademola and produced by Rotimi. The project is regarded as one of the final works completed by the filmmaker before her death in December 2025.

The film premiered on March 1 and began its nationwide cinema run on March 6.

An indigenous drama, Kilanko explores family and spiritual themes centred on a mysterious child whose presence affects the lives of those around him.

The movie features actors including Ibrahim Chatta, Saheed Balogun, Tina Mba, Hafiz Oyetoro, Biola Adebayo and Rotimi.

Its cinema release came the same weekend as other Nollywood titles such as Mother’s Love by Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Onobiren by Laju Iren, both of which also opened in cinemas across Nigeria.
