The Anglican Diocese of Kaduna has announced the death of the priest-in-charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Venerable Edwin Achi, who was kidnapped with his wife and daughter on October 28.

The diocese confirmed his death in a statement on Wednesday.

“The Venerable Edwin, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October 2025, has been confirmed dead,” the statement said.

The diocese said his wife and daughter remain in captivity.

“We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of kidnappers,” it added.

The diocese announced the cancellation of its Stand Up for Jesus 2025 programme in honour of the priest.

“On this note, the Stand Up for Jesus 2025 is hereby cancelled in honour of the late Venerable Edwin Achi,” the statement said.

The diocese ended the announcement with a message of faith and consolation.

Priest Achi was kidnapped with his wife and daughter when bandits entered his house in Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna.

The family had recently relocated to the community.

The kidnappers later contacted the family to demand N600 million ransom.

Edwin Achi hailed from Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.
