Controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo has surprised many social media users after she defended actress Iyabo Ojo following the fire incident that gutted her office building in Lekki, Lagos.

Kemi, who is known for antagonising the actress, made a post on her Facebook page on Wednesday cautioning those making unverified claims about the cause of the fire.

“Stop mocking Iyabo Ojo on TikTok by saying Mohbad’s spirit is strong or that she set the fire as insurance fr@ud to pay her debts. Have Empathy!” she wrote.

She also advised the actress to install a smoke detector and turn off electrical gadgets before leaving the building, especially due to Nigeria’s erratic power supply. She thanked God that no lives were lost.

Kemi Olunloyo’s post came after Iyabo Ojo confirmed in an Instagram post on Tuesday that her office caught fire around 7pm. She thanked the fire service and her staff for salvaging what was left.

“This just happened today the 8th of July 2025 around 7 pm. My office building caught fire. Thank you Lord that no life was lost. The devil tried but failed. What God cannot do does not exist. With God, we will rebuild and bounce back stronger and better,” she wrote.

In a related development, Iyabo’s daughter Priscilla Ojo, on Wednesday, revealed that a threat letter was delivered to the same office on May 24, weeks before the fire.

The letter, which she shared on her Instagram Story, warned that her mother would be monitored for three months and that her own marriage would be ruined.

Part of the letter read: “You put someone in trouble and you out enjoying giving out your daughter in marriage abi? O ma laya o. You can’t escape in the next 3 months as we are out monitoring you.”

Reacting to the fire, Priscilla claimed the threat was carried out after the sender failed to ruin her wedding. She also said CCTV footage is being retrieved to identify who dropped the letter.

Iyabo Ojo and Kemi Olunloyo have been involved in several online spats in the past.

Recently, Iyabo blasted Olunloyo for alleging that her late mother suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and was physically abused by her before she died. Iyabo described the journalist’s life as pathetic and said she would never respect her.

The new show of empathy from Olunloyo has therefore shocked many who have followed the long-standing feud between the two.
