American online streamer Kai Cenat has donated school bags, books, uniforms and other educational materials to children at the Makoko Children School Orphanage Home, following his return back to Lagos, Nigeria.
He arrived in the city on Wednesday, marking his second visit to Nigeria since first coming in 2024.
The 24‑year‑old spent part of his Lagos trip at the community school, where he danced, painted and played with pupils. He described the experience as “pleasing”.
During the visit, Cenat said he felt welcomed by Nigerians and that the affection he receives in Lagos motivates his repeated visits. “I feel very comfortable whenever I’m in Lagos. The love I get here is a big reason I keep coming back,” he said.
He also spoke about his connection to Nigeria, recalling an earlier visit. “Being back in Nigeria means everything to me. I was here two years ago and I completely enjoyed it. Everybody showed me love. When I returned to America, I told people Nigeria is a place to visit,” he said. Cenat added, “I’m so mad that I missed December in Lagos. I just want to understand the culture more and explore it better. That’s what I’ve been doing all day.”
He had earlier paid a visit to the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, following his return on Wednesday.
Cenat first visited Makoko in 2024, when he supported a school project in the community and contributed $3,000 towards its development.
The Makoko area is a large waterfront settlement in Lagos facing long‑standing social and educational challenges. Over the past two years, Cenat has publicly committed to supporting the community’s education needs. In 2024 he said work on a new school project in the area had begun and called for partners and resources to assist with construction and equipment.
In late 2024, he also pledged that 20 percent of the revenue from his “Mafiathon 2” livestream event would go towards building a school for children in Makoko, a plan that drew support from some of his collaborators.
In 2025, the National Football League donated $100,000 to support Cenat’s school project in Makoko as part of its Inspire Change initiative and charity collaborations.
