Ka3na tackles fake celebrity pregnancies, advocates openness on surrogacy

Reality TV star Ka3na has sparked conversations online after calling on Nigerian public figures especially women to be more honest about their motherhood journeys and to stop misleading fans with fake pregnancy narratives.

In a post shared on Instagram, the Big Brother Naija Lockdown alumna criticised the growing trend among celebrities who, instead of being transparent about using surrogates, choose to stage pregnancies using baby bumps and fabricated stories.

“Dear Nigerian Public Figures (especially women), we are privileged to be more informed, more exposed, and better travelled. With that comes the responsibility to be honest with our followers,” she wrote.

Ka3na, who is a mother of one, argued that there is absolutely nothing wrong with surrogacy and described the process as valid, powerful and not something to be ashamed of.

“There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a baby through a surrogate. The child is 100% yours. So why deceive your fans by pretending to be pregnant?” she asked.

The entrepreneur, who welcomed her daughter Lila in 2019 with her now-late husband Jones, revealed that she experienced a traumatic pregnancy and would likely choose surrogacy if she decides to have another child.

“Take me for example: I had a traumatic pregnancy that left me with a deep fear of going through it again. If I ever choose to have another child, I hope to go through surrogacy. And there’s nothing shameful about that,” she said.

Ka3na’s emotional appeal touched on the importance of embracing truth as a form of healing, particularly for women battling fertility issues, pregnancy trauma, or other health challenges.

“We have platforms. We have influence. Let’s use them to share truth that helps, not just images that perform. And for the record, many of us mothers can see through the act. You’re not pregnant, and that’s okay. But the lie? It’s unnecessary,” she added.

Born Kate Jones, Ka3na was one of the controversial figures during the 2020 edition of BBNaija.

In recent years, she has used her platform to promote business, motherhood and personal growth.

In May 2023, she mourned her British husband, Mr. Jones, who died months after she relocated to Nigeria with their daughter.
