Damilola Marshal, daughter of Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has reacted to claims made by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) that the musician attempted to board a ValueJet flight with an alcoholic drink.
Taking to her Instagram Story on Thursday, Damilola shared a screenshot of her father’s official statement where he denied the allegation, insisting the liquid in question was water and not alcohol.
She captioned the post, “I don’t know why a reputable Agency will lie that Water is Alcohol, I don’t know when K1 became a Magician that turns water into Alcohol.”
Damilola also posted a video of her father on a different occasion carrying the same type of flask, suggesting that he is always seen with it.
“With the same flask, all of a sudden everyone is pretending as if they don’t know he carries his water in his flask everywhere,” she wrote.
QEDng earlier reported that K1’s team issued a statement describing the FAAN report as “exaggerated and misleading.”
They explained that the singer was simply holding a flask containing drinking water handed to him at the lounge before boarding, and that he was not disruptive as claimed.
FAAN had in a memo alleged that the incident happened on Tuesday, while K1 was boarding ValueJet flight VK201. The agency claimed he tried to board with an alcoholic substance in a flask, which violated aviation safety rules. According to the report, K1 refused to cooperate when questioned and allegedly poured the contents on a security official.
In reaction to the incident, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has banned K1 from flying within Nigeria for six months.
Minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo, also confirmed the sanction in a statement shared on his verified social media pages.
He said, “Preliminary findings indicate that there was a temporary loss of sanity on the part of the passenger concerned, and a few of the airport staff and ValueJet operatives might have acted inappropriately.”
Keyamo noted that K1, in an attempt to prevent the flight from taking off without him, ran to the tarmac and stood in front of the aircraft. He described the act as equivalent to “a hostage situation.”
He further directed that K1 be placed on a no-fly list and warned that any airline that disregards the order risks having its license suspended or revoked.
